On Your Journey of Self-Love

What would be your answer if I ask you to name one thing that you love. Just think about it a little. What came to your mind first? Your family, your pet or maybe a location that has a special meaning for you. How about yourself? Did you consider saying “me”?

None of us could really think of ourselves as something that we love when faced with this question. But self-love is as important as any answer that you can think of; or even more important. Improving your self-love approach is a very significant skill to manage daily life problems, keeping your mood up and preventing negative feelings. Not many of us are informed about how to practise self-love but there are plenty of simple and efficient techniques you can try. Don’t forget that there might be some techniques that benefit you particularly; so, it is very important to try out everything and decide on which ones make you feel better. Here are some suggestions from to help you practise self-care:

  • Create your “I-did-it” list:

We have a list for almost everything, to-do lists to remember what we are going to do, shopping lists to make sure our fridge is full and bucket lists to make sure we do everything we’re aiming for. How about a list of our accomplishments? An I-did-it list is as important as the other ones.

We need to see what we have done so far to be hopeful for the future. Our confidence and self-esteem would highly benefit from this activity, which would change how we perceive ourselves. So, everyday before your bedtime take notes of what you have achieved today, from smallest to biggest, list everything. Maybe you’ve walked instead of using your car or you did not forget to water your plants, anything works! Remember that you’re capable of more than you can think of.

  • Design your own cozy place:

The places we live in are significantly correlated to how we value ourselves. Self-love is about loving everything related to us and where we live creates a big part of who we are. Start with your bedroom, change it into a place that you truly love and can reflect you. This way, everytime you enter you will realise that this place is uniquely beautiful and as it represents you, you will also get to become more aware of your self-worth. Even small additions can create a change, start with putting some candles with flavours that you really like or adding some pillows of your favourite colour.

  • Digital detox and social media breaks boost self-love too:

It is of course good to share our happy moments with our loved ones through social media. Thanks to it, we can be connected to everyone even from the farest distance. But there are some negative effects of it too. What we see on social media can be very misleading. It can cause us to think some people’s lives are just better than ours or question our choices by comparing ourselves to them. What we forget is that they only let us see the best parts of their day and never their lowest moments but still this situation can cause us to lose our ability to be content with ourselves. Thus, taking regular social media breaks or limiting our online time can be beneficial for us to enjoy the offline world, spend time with ourselves and embrace it.

  • Nurture your soul, its childish parts too:

Even though you’re not a child anymore, you can’t deny that there’s a kid still living in your soul. It’s always good to think about your favourite cartoon, your favourite toy or your favourite meal when you were a child since childhood is perceived as a simpler and better time for many of us. Our childhood is part of us as well, so holding onto it and nurturing it also serves to improve our understanding of self-love. Thus, giving yourself little gifts that would make your inner child happy is a very helpful trick to accept yourself as you are. Go to your favourite park as a child, eat from your favourite restaurant or get yourself a treat; anything would work but don’t lose the kid in your soul.

Here are some easy but efficient methods to become more aware of your self-worth and to boost your self-esteem. Never forget that before loving anything else it is very important to love yourself. This way, you will also get to see that everything around you is more beautiful than you think. Start your self-love journey now.
